Student Exchange USA
In summer 2008, a collaboration agreement was established between ITM and the Department of Polymer and Fiber Engineering der Auburn University located in the Southern United States. About 23.000 students are currently enrolled at Auburn University, which was founded in 1856. The town of Auburn in Alabama is a 90 minute drive from Atlanta. Auburn University is a comprehensive university with its 12 school and colleges in the fields of medicine, technology, natural and social sciences as well as liberal arts, which are comparable to German faculties. About 3.500 students are currently pursuing a technical degree at the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, which offers programs in the fields of architecture, civil engineering, electrical technology and aerospace. The Department of Polymer and Fiber Engineering – originally an education and research site for classical textile-related disciplines – is nowadays focused on biomaterials, composites and polymer materials.
The core element of the cooperation between Auburn and Dresden is our student exchange program. Each semester, one or two students get the opportunity to study and research at the partner university. In Auburn, students can participate in courses such as textile chemistry and fiber-reinforced materials offered by the Department of Polymer and Fiber Engineering as well as diverse courses of other faculties. Interested students may hand in their applications at any time. It is required that students have completed their undergraduate degree and have a good command of the English language. Due to necessary formalities, the application needs to be submitted at least six months prior to the planned departure date.
