Mechanical engineering graduate Yannic Lorenz wins European "Speak Out for Engineering" competition
Yannic Lorenz, research assistant at the Chair of Machine Elements, took first place in both the German and European rounds of the "Speak Out for Engineering" competition, thus qualifying for the global final.
Speak Out for Engineering is an English-language lecture competition for technical topics that has been organised annually by the British Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) since 1964. Participants have 20 minutes to give a presentation followed by a discussion. The aim is to promote the ability to communicate effectively among young engineers.
The national final took place on 9 November 2023 at the VDI headquarters in Düsseldorf, while the European final was held on 27 January 2024 in Gżira, Malta.
Lorenz won with the defence of his diploma thesis on "Simulation of the case hardening process using the finite element method", which was supervised by Jakob Pogert.
Lorenz was significantly supported in his travel activities by the Chair of Machine Elements and its holder Prof Berthold Schlecht.
