Master's Programme in Bioinspired Material and Fiber Systems for Medical and Lightweight Applications
How can bio-inspired materials and fiber systems be used for medical applications and lightweight construction? How can materials and products be developed sustainably and adapted to various scientific and application-oriented challenges? In the English-language master’s program “Bioinspired Material and Fiber Systems for Medical and Lightweight Applications,” you’ll combine knowledge from materials science, fiber technology, lightweight construction, and sustainable medical technology. You’ll explore bio-inspired material and fiber systems as well as the development of innovative products for medical and lightweight construction applications.
What to Expect from the Programme
The master’s program builds upon a first university degree in an engineering or natural science discipline. During the program, you’ll deepen your knowledge at the intersection of materials science, fiber technology, lightweight construction, and sustainable medical technology. In the first three semesters, you’ll take core and required elective modules.
Among other topics, you’ll explore bio-inspired materials, material interfaces, biomedical materials, tissue engineering, high-performance fibers, and fiber-reinforced composite structures. You’ll learn methods for material characterization and computer simulation and explore sustainable approaches to material and product development.
State-of-the-art research infrastructure enables you to apply the methods you’ve learned in practice. A research internship gives you the opportunity to work independently on current scientific questions and gain practical experience in a research environment. In the fourth semester, you’ll complete your degree with your master’s thesis.
Shape Your Own Profile
The degree program offers you numerous opportunities to individually combine your academic interests. By selecting five out of fourteen elective modules, you can deepen your expertise in a targeted manner in the areas of materials science, fiber technology, lightweight construction, or medical technology. In doing so, you can combine different subject areas and address both scientific and application-oriented questions. Additionally, you can choose three out of seven language courses and advance your language skills to the B2 level.
Your Career Prospects
With your master’s degree, you’ll develop materials and products for future applications. You can apply your knowledge in fields such as medical technology, lightweight construction, mobility, high-performance fiber systems, fiber composite technology, and sustainable material systems. Career opportunities are available in the following areas, among others:
- Medical technology
- Lightweight construction
- Mobility and technical applications
- Fiber-reinforced composites
- Textile and fiber systems industry
- Materials Research and Development
- Simulation and Product Development
- Sustainable Materials and Production Concepts
This research-oriented degree program also provides you with a solid foundation for a Ph.D. and an international academic career. Careers in leadership positions within industry are also possible.
