Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Maik Gude: "5th Saxon-Polish Innovation Day”
Applicant: Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Maik Gude, Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering | School of Engineering Sciences
Period: 21.09.2023 - 22.09.2023 (annual event since 2017)
Participating partners: Wrocław University of Technology, Wrocław, Poland | Wrocław University of Economics and Business, Wrocław, Poland | University of Wrocław, Wrocław, Poland | Wrocławskie Centrum Akademieckie, Wrocław, Poland
Since 2017, the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology at TU Dresden has organised the Saxon-Polish Innovation Day. The event brings together stakeholders from the worlds of science, business, politics and society from Saxony and Lower Silesia, providing a platform for discussing future topics such as sustainability, mobility and digitalisation. As a well-established event, it strengthens the partnership between Dresden and Wrocław, creating a unique opportunity for cross-border innovation and international research collaboration. In 2023, the Innovation Day took place in Dresden for the first time and was officially opened by Dirk Hilbert (Mayor of the City of Dresden), Jakub Mazur (First Vice President of the City of Wrocław) and representatives of the Rectorate of TU Dresden and Politechnika Wrocławska.
The Innovation Day is a vibrant hub for exchange: "The heart of the Innovation Day is the city partnership between Wroclaw and Dresden, the importance of which should not be underestimated. Both cities are capitals of neighbouring regions, Lower Silesia and Saxony, which lie at the centre of Europe. This gives Dresden and its research landscape the option of collaborating with Wroclaw to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western European research and economic areas. As no other German-Polish partnership has such a favourable starting position, the partnership between Wrocław and Dresden is truly unique."
The fact that the special features act as a catalyst and are used strategically can be seen in the positive effects on cross-border research cooperation: Since the first Innovation Day, numerous joint projects have been initiated, including the MOEL-SOEL project 'TransTech', the CORNET project 'SmartMembrane', 'ComfyTPU' and the 'IoT4MoTech' project, which emerged from the 4th Innovation Day. In addition, the Innovation Days have established sustainable networks, such as the Europe-wide network for system modelling that brings together industry and research representatives.
The Saxon-Polish Innovation Day exemplifies how an active regional partnership with an established event format can contribute to internationalization and visibility and how it can generate successful follow-up projects in science, business and society through effective networking.
