Partnerships in Taiwan, India and Sub-Saharan Africa
TU Dresden's global activities under the slogan "Connected to the world" go hand in hand with the responsibility to make innovative contributions to overcoming global challenges and thus achieve a sustainable social and economic impact.
TU Dresden's global commitment starts in selected priority regions in Asia and Africa:
The thematic focus in these regions ties in with TUD's scientific profile and the Dresden location on the one hand and addresses specific Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on the other.
The opening of the first Saxon coordination office in 2023 under the leadership of TU Dresden in Taipei, Taiwan demonstrates the relevance of this Asian region for TU Dresden's commitment. TU Dresden is building strong partnerships in the field of microelectronics and semiconductor technology with Taiwan, which experienced a rapid rise to an industrialized country from the second half of the 20th century and today has a high level of technological development. TUD cooperates with the company TSMC, the National Taiwan University and other universities in training and, in the future, in research and transfer, thus contributing to sustainable economic development and innovation, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
Sustainable development also means involving stakeholders from the Global South in solving the environmental, climate and social challenges that particularly affect them. TU Dresden is particularly aware of its global responsibility in this regard.
In order to achieve concrete successes here, TU Dresden is focusing on water research, ecological sustainability, mobility and social change, which it is driving forward in particular with partners in the countries of sub-Saharan Africa and India.
Furthermore, there is a prioritized need for action in capacity building for people from structurally weaker regions, which enables them to drive the development of their region and their communities with innovative research approaches. TU Dresden takes this important component into account in its four DAAD-funded EPOS Master's degree programs and in the CIPSEM training program, among others.
