The “electron” Collection of Communication Engineering and Precision Technology
Since 1989, several partial electrical engineering/electronics collections have been combined into the "electron" collection. It now comprises more than 2,000 objects, including typewriters, meters, switches, microphones and tubes. The earliest exhibits presumably go back to the collection of “telegraphic and signalling devices” set up by Eduard Zetzsche around 1875, while others come from the laboratories at the Institute of Communications Technology, founded in 1911 by Heinrich Barkhausen. A further partial collection originates from the collection of office-machine and precision-instrument technology, which was systematically established between 1950 and 1968 by Siegfried Hildebrand. Several objects were produced in the in-house workshop for teaching and research purposes.
