Our Joint PhD Program
The vision of the IRTG-MEDIS is to provide PhD and MD doctoral researchers two different
excellent European academic environments with a joint supervision that will offer them various and complementary viewpoints and directions for acquiring advanced skills and for developing an independent scientific thinking and research identity. In order to achieve this aim, we will establish the MEDIS Qualification Programme that will follow a research-focused curricular structure. The MEDIS Programme will be embedded in the DIGS-ILS) at the TU Dresden and the CPKD of the Medical Faculty of TU Dresden.
MEDIS Programme will profit from the established structure but will additionally include IRTG-MEDIS specific training modules with focus on:
- presenting the current knowledge about the pathophysiological connections between metabolic/endocrine disorders and infectious diseases
- understanding the clinical relevance – importance of this bidirectional relationship for human health
- training students in novel methodological aspects, in order to bridge the gap between the different areas of research.
The IRTG-MEDIS consortium will combine an interdisciplinary team of cell-biologists,
chemists, bio-technologists, diabetologists, endocrinologists, infectiologists, and bioinformatics to provide young basic and clinical researchers an excellent portfolio of future-orientated methods and skills in the field of metabolic, endocrine and infectious disease research in one curriculum.
