Winners of the transCampus Research Awards at King’s College London
With a total budget of 100,000 GBP King’s College London grants financial support to four research projects within the transCampus network. The Research Awards represent the equivalent of the transCampus Funding Programme at Technische Universität Dresden and aim to honour already existing co-operations and to foster new projects within the transCampus network.
The panel of experts responsible for selecting the winners peer-reviewed submissions of extraordinary quality from a number of faculties, such as Life Science and Medicine, Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, and Natural and Mathematical Science. The winning projects reflect the diversity of the transCampus network and emphasise its strengths in the areas of stem cell therapy and interdisciplinary co-operation.
The transCampus Research Award supports the continued research of Dr. Antonio Galleu (Centre for Stem Cell, KCL) and Prof. Martin Bornhäuser (Faculty of Medicine, MKI) regarding the effectivity of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells and allows the further development of magnet resonance imaging, a joint research project of Dr. Anthony Vernon (Basic and Clinical Neuroscience, KCL) and Prof. Gerd Kempermann (Faculty of Medicine, DZNE). It funds an interdisciplinary project related to the design principles of CISS for practical spintronic applications by Ismael Diez Perez (Physcial Chemistry, KCL) and Prof. Gianaurelio Cuniberti (Nanotechnology, TUD) as well as research regarding the significance of nuclear remodelling for direct lineage reprogramming of cells, conducted by Prof. Dr. Benedikt Berninger (King’s Developmental Neurobiology) and Dr. Tomohisa Toda (Faculty of Medicine, DZNE).
