Medical Exhibition Seminar
The introduction of the Medical Exhibition Seminar (MES) represents an innovative step in medical teaching and aims to promote interactive, problem-oriented learning approaches. The concept, developed by Henningsohn and Dolk at the Karolinska Institute, combines the presentation of clinical case studies in exhibition formats with peer teaching approaches and thus supports the active acquisition of knowledge by students.
Pilots at our faculty will take place from spring 2025 as part of the Clinicum Digitale, in collaboration with the Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Digital Health. Introduction into the medical curriculum is also planned for 2025. Initially as part of the practical year with the departments of dermatology and pediatrics. The MES enables students to comprehensively grasp complex medical topics through multimedia and multisensory presentations. Typical exhibits include images, videos, sculptures and interactive materials that focus on the diagnosis and treatment of measles and scabies, for example, as well as machine learning and quantitative sonography. The aim is to link students' theoretical knowledge more closely with clinical practice and to promote active problem-solving skills. Previous experience at other universities has shown promising results in improving long-term knowledge and student motivation. Future quantitative studies at our faculty will be complemented by pre- and post-tests and feedback forms to systematically validate the effectiveness of the MES. This new teaching method has the potential to significantly enrich the acquisition of skills in medicine and promote modern, patient-centered education.
