Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Dr. habil. med. Martin Sedlmayr ist Inhaber der Professur für Medizinische Informatik und stellvertretender Direktor des IMB. Als Direktor des Zentrums für Medizinische Informatik der Hochschulmedizin Dresden und CDO/CDIO der Hochschulmedizin trägt er gemeinsam mit dem CIO des Universitätsklinikums die Verantwortung für die strategische Weiterentwicklung der Hochschulmedizin Dresden im Bereich der Digitalisierung und digitalen Medizin.
Der wissenschaftliche Schwerpunkt von Prof. Sedlmayr liegt in der benutzerzentrierten Entwicklung digitaler Assistenzsysteme für die Medizin sowie der Bereitstellung von Big Data-Infrastrukturen für die klinische Versorgung und Forschung. Dabei leiten ihn drei zentrale Fragen:

Wie können Daten, Informationen und Wissen umfassend erschlossen und kontextbezogen angewendet werden? (Inhaltsebene)

Wie können innovative Technologien zum Aufbau flexibler Infrastrukturen genutzt werden? (Infrastrukturebene)

Wie können assistierende Anwendungen möglichst nahtlos in die Erlebniswelt des Nutzers integriert werden? (Anwendungsebene)
Prof. Sedlmayr ist zudem Mitglied der Steuerungsgruppe der Forschungsinfrastrukturen im Netzwerk Universitätsmedizin und im Nationalen Steuerungsgremium der Medizininformatik-Initiative. Er koordiniert den Digitalen Fortschrittshub Gesundheit MiHUBx und ist stellvertretender Vorsitzender des INTEROP-Council für digitale Gesundheit in Deutschland.
