Networking of the MII-Junior Research Groups
Project Duration
01.09.2023-31.12.2025
Background
Since September 2023, the team of the Junior Research Group (JRG) CDS2USE has been coordinating all JRG’s with the goal of increasing their visibility and scientific impact both within and beyond the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII). National and international networking plays a crucial role in this effort, as does the integration of early-career researchers into the working structures of the MII.
This initiative not only offers early-career scientists the opportunity to support each other and learn from one another, but also opens up prospects for sustainable collaborations that extend beyond the initiative itself. Strengthening visibility and integration into broader scientific networks is intended to help translate innovative research findings into practice more rapidly and to advance the development of cutting-edge technologies in the healthcare sector.
Objectives
The overarching aim of this project is to foster the exchange and networking of the junior research groups of the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) – both at the leadership level and among the researchers within the JRG-teams.
In addition, the JRG are to be more closely integrated into the working structures and committees of the MII through this measure.
Specific sub-goals of successful networking of the JRG within the MII include:
- Increasing information exchange among the JRG (both leadership and team members),
- Enhancing the exchange of information between the JRG and the MII working structures/committees and promoting active participation by the JRG (e.g., National Steering Committee (NSG)/Main Assembly, MII working groups, Module 2 projects),
- Election of a representative from the JRG to the NSG,
- Raising the visibility of the JRG both within and outside of the MII (identity),
- Ensuring the sustainability of the networking concept beyond the funding period of the applying JRG CDS2USE.
Results
As part of the networking project, an extensive portfolio for the JRG was developed – Link to the portfolio.
Working Meetings of the Junior Research Groups: The junior research groups hold quarterly working meetings that provide a platform for professional exchange and networking. These meetings enable young researchers to present their projects, discuss research focuses, and explore potential collaborations. The sessions foster the integration of the junior research groups into the MII working structures and include specialist lectures on current topics, as well as breakout sessions to delve deeper into challenges and opportunities.
An in-person meeting is held once a year to strengthen connections further. These meetings are particularly valuable for building relationships, developing joint projects, and addressing current scientific challenges. The combination of virtual and in-person meetings ensures long-term, sustainable collaboration and drives progress effectively.
