20,000 participants, 16 runners of the Paul Langerhans Institute Dresden and a world record, that was the 10th REWE Team Challenge.
This year the REWE Team Challenge celebrated its 10th birthday and what remains of the biggest running party of the year: lots of emotions and great memories!
After five kilometers of running there was no stopping: The arms were torn up and selfies were made. On May 23, 2018, 16 runners from the Paul Langerhans Institute Dresden (PLID) took part in the so-called RTC for the third time. Together with another 20,000 runners, the 4 teams took the traditional route from Dresden's Altmarkt to DDV stadium. At ideal temperatures, the PLID teams achieved great positions in the overall classification. In the mixed teams, the "Paul Langerhans TWO" team reached a respectable 1591th place out of a total of 2630 mixed teams with a total time of 1:58:09. The teams "Paul Langerhans ONE" and "Paul Langerhans THREE" were happy about the places 1648 (1:58:52) and 2151 (2:07:41). The fourth PLID Team "Die Inselbegabten" finished with a total time of 2:12.28 and reached the 400th out of 632th places in the women's classification. Julia Paditz ran the best time in the individual ranking with 0:25:48 and thus reached the 823th (out of 8402) place in the women's overall ranking. Frank Möller scored the fastest men's time of the PLID runners with 0:22:52 and came on position 2294 (out of 12,922) of the men's overall standings.
Not to forget, there also was a world record at the RTC: The former athlete and stair runner Thomas Dold ran the five kilometers backwards faster than anyone before him. After 19:07 minutes he crossed the finish line. We say: Chapeau!
Congratulations on this great success and many thanks to the German Center for Diabetes Research e.V. (DZD) and the HelmholtzZentrum München (HMGU) for their financial and material support and of course for all who participated!
