3, 2, 1,....Science! - 19th Long Night of Science Dresden
Marveling through the night. Jointly researching, laughing, experimenting and communicating. 32,000 visitors at several hundred events in Dresden's research institutes, that was the Long Night of the Sciences 2019 and the Paul Langerhans Institute was, as always, right at the center with a diabetes information booth.
"3, 2, 1,...Science!" was the motto of the 19th Long Night of Science, which took place on July 8th at various Dresden research institutes. After two years of Corona-related abstinence, the Paul Langerhans Institute Dresden (PLID) of the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD) participated again this year with a variety of activities in this great event series, which no longer took place virtually but finally in presence again.
Between 5 p.m. and midnight, 1,700 science-interested visitors of all ages visited the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD), where the PLID information booth was located. The visitors took the opportunity to learn about the current research activities of the scientists in type-1 and type-2 diabetes. In addition, the scientists at the information booth offered various hands-on activities such as taste experiments or a "sugar quiz".
In self-produced videos, visitors could watch the intracellular processes in a beta cell after it had been exposed to a glucose stimulus, or they could risk a look through the microscope at variously stained sections of pancreatic islets. But that was not all, those who wanted to could have their picture taken while pipetting in the PLID photo box and thus capture the 19th Long Night of Science 2022 for eternity.
