Three young scientists of PLID honored with DZD Award
Annually, the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD) confers a DZD Award to ten researchers who are at the beginning of their career. The internal award honors scientific results from basic or clinical research that have been presented in the form of a poster or a talk at a diabetes conference.
This year, three scientists from the Paul Langerhans Institute (PLID), among others, are delighted to receive their prize money of 1,000 euros each.
Dr. Christine Henke from the research group of Prof. Andreas Birkenfeld, receives the award for her presentation "Mechanisms of Age-Dependent Amplification of Insulin Secretion in Mice", which she gave at the 55th Annual Congress of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Barcelona in September 2019.
Dr. Andreas Müller is conducting his research at the PLID in the group of Prof. Michele Solimena and receives the DZD Award for his presentation "4 D imaging of insulin secretory granule dynamics and secretion in primary beta cells with lattice light sheet microscopy", which he held at the 3rd Joint EASD Islet Study Group and Beta Cell Workshop in Oxford in April 2019.
The third PLID awardee, Dr. Jovana Vasiljevic, also works in the research group of Prof. Michele Solimena. She gave the talk "hnRNP A2/B1 is a novel post-transcriptional regulator of insulin expression in β-cells" at the Nuclear Architecture, Lipids, and Phase Separation Meeting held in Prague in October 2019.
Unlike their predecessors, however, they were not able to receive the awards in a festive setting during a DZD workshop and present their award-winning work. This will be accomplished with the help of short videos. Below you will find the links to the corresponding short presentations:
