Two PLID doctoral students among the winners of the DZD Award 2020
Annually, the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD) confers a DZD Award to ten researchers who are at the beginning of their career. The internal award honors scientific results from basic or clinical research that have been presented in the form of a poster or a talk at a diabetes conference.
This year, among others, two PhD students of the Paul Langerhans Institute (PLID) are happy about their prize money of 1,000 euros each.
Nermeen El-Agroudy from the group of Prof. Andreas Birkenfeld, receives the award for her poster presentation "Pharmacological inhibition of mammalian INDY ameliorates hepatic insulin resistance, steatosis and inflammation in a diet-induced NASH mouse model", which she gave at the online Liver Meeting® of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AALSD) in November 2020.
Zuzana Marinicova is a researcher at PLID in the group of Prof. Michele Solimena and receives the DZD Award for her presentation "Presentation of insulin granule derived peptides on MHC I in Enterovirus-infected beta cells and type 1 diabetes" which she gave at the Virtual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in September 2020.
As last year, due to the Corona pandemic, they were unfortunately unable to receive the prizes in a festive setting during a DZD workshop and present their award-winning work. This will be made up for with the help of short videos. Below you will find the links to the corresponding short presentations:
