In Germany, admission to university places in medicine and dentistry is limited. The number of applicants is often higher than the number of places available.

Together with your application documents, you must submit one of the following language certificates: DSH 2, TestDAF 4/5, DSDII 4xC1, Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom of the Goethe Institute, telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule or an equivalent certificate.

Applicants with a direct university entrance qualification without sufficient command of German are obliged to make an independent effort to acquire one of the above mentioned language certificates. Preparatory courses (DSH Preparatory Course, “Propädeutikum” at TU Dresden) cannot be offered to applicants for medicine and dentistry.

Evaluation criteria / direct university access

Choosing applicants

Applicants will be chosen on the basis of ranking those applications that were received in full and on time. Applicants in the non-EU quota will be selected in accordance with the SächsStudPlVergabeVO (Saxon Study Places Allocation Regulations) in its currently valid version.

Selection takes place in two stages: pre-selection on the basis of the application documents and a personal selection interview.

All applicants are ranked according to the following criteria, in addition to the points listed in the SächsStudPlVergabeVO (Saxon Study Places Allocation Regulations)

HZB-Note (University entrance qualification grade)
particularly good linguistic qualifications (proof of language proficiency beyond the minimum level)

TestAS

The best applicants will be invited for an interview. Applicants need to participate in the interview to be considered in the admission procedure. The selection interviews usually take place at the end of August / beginning of September.

Application for medicine or dentistry / Studienkolleg (preparatory college)

Enrolment in the Studienkolleg (Course M) is at the applicant’s request, if direct university access is not possible (http://anabin.kmk.org/anabin-datenbank.html). The admission test must be passed successfully.

Applications must be submitted via www.uni-assist.de by 15^th July for the winter semester and by 15^th January for the summer semester.

Please submit a B1/B2 language certificate as per European Common Framework of Reference for Languages.

For admission to the Studienkolleg, your school report should have an overall grade of max. 1.5. Admission to the Studienkolleg does not constitute a legal entitlement to a place in the desired degree programme. After completion of the Studienkolleg, a renewed application for a place of study is required.

The Studienkolleg Saxony is located in Leipzig.

Applications are submitted via www.hochschulstart.de for the winter semester.

If you would like the Faculty of Medicine of TU Dresden to provide you with a scientific assessment in advance, please send an e-mail to to request information about the range of documents to be submitted. These must be submitted at the same time as the application to the “Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung” (Foundation for Admission to Universities) for the respective winter semester by 31^st May at the latest.

Sub-listeners

Sub-listeners are students enrolled at another German university who want to enroll at TU Dresden in parallel. At the Medical Faculty at TU Dresden only students for the practical year who complete tertials at one oft he teaching hospitals are registered as sub-listeners.

Guest auditors

Since there are admission restrictions for all NC courses offered at the Medical Faculty at TU Dresden, applicants outside the Faculty are not granted access to lectures or courses.

A doctoral program serves to prepare or complete a dissertation and can last from 1 to 6 semesters. In the research unit (Referat Forschung) you will find helpful information about the procedure and matriculation as well as general information on doctoral programs: Referat Forschung / Postgraduales

Application documents for doctoral studies are also available registration office at the Medical Faculty. Please submit your CV and a copy of the state examination certificate completed application.

Application for a higher semester in Medical Studies

Due to the yearly admissions, only the following semesters / clinical semesters are available.

Winter semester:
a) the 1^st and 3^rd semesters in the pre-clinical phase,
b) the 1^st, 3^rd and 5^th clinical semesters in the clinical phase
and the Practical Year

Summer semester:
a) the 2^nd and 4^th semesters in the pre-clinical phase,
b) the 2^nd, 4^th and 6^th clinical semesters in the clinical phase
and the Practical Year

As a general rule, an applicant who already was or has been enrolled in the same course at a university in Germany or the European Union will only be matriculated for the next higher semester or clinical semester. As a matter of principle, downgrades are not possible. Applicants for the clinical phase of the medical studies programme should make sure that they first select the overall semester and then the clinical semester in their application (to complete your medical studies within the standard period, this means: 5^th overall semester = 1^st clinical semester; 6^th overall semester = 2^nd clinical semester, etc.). The clinical semester is decisive for an application in the clinical phase.

In the online application, all periods of study in Germany and abroad must be specified. Also, please enter already completed intermediate exams such as the First Part of the Medical Exam (Physikum) under “Prüfung” (Examination). Incorrect and incomplete information will lead to the exclusion of the applicant from the allocation procedure.

Allocation criteria – ranking
Admission to a higher semester is governed by § 7 of the “Sächsisches Hochschulzulassungsgesetz” (Saxon Higher Education Admission Act) in conjunction with § 42 of the “Sächsische Studienplatzvergabeverordnung” (Saxon Study Places Allocation Regulations). If study places are available, the allocation is determined by the categories (groups of applicants):

1. Upgrading
2. Applicants changing university / interrupting degree programmes
3. Other applicants (lateral entry)

Within these groups of applicants, ranking will be determined on the basis of academic achievements to date (completed certificates/credits as stipulated by the medical licensing regulations). If the ranking is the same, the place is allocated according to the average grade of the university entrance qualification (German = Abitur) and, if still necessary at this point, by drawing lots.

1. Upgrading:
upgrading requires you to have been admitted to the 1^st semester of the respective course of study by the “Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung” (Foundation for Admission to Universities) and to apply in writing to be upgraded on the basis of your academic achievements to date. (There is no official template for this application, the only requirement being that you submit your request in any written form. German = formlos) The application for upgrading must be submitted together with the acceptance of admission for the first semester, the relevant certificates/credits need to be provided.

2. Applicants changing university / interrupting degree programmes:

students from a member state of the European Union who wish to change universities need an official recognition of existing study and examination certificates/credits and need to be placed in a higher semester of their desired degree programme. You may only apply to have your existing study and examination certificates/credits recognised and to be placed in a higher semester at the appropriate “Landesprüfungsamt” (State Examination Office). Please ask them in good time about the procedure, the processing time and any available forms or templates.

3. Other applicants (lateral entry):
if you change your subject or course of study you are regarded as a lateral entrant, as are applicants who have acquired their certificates/credits at a university outside a member state of the European Union. You may only apply to have your existing study and examination certificates/credits recognised and to be placed in a higher semester at the appropriate “Landesprüfungsamt” (State Examination Office). Please ask them in good time about the procedure, the processing time and any available forms.

The documents required for matriculation, including certified documents, will only be requested from you when the notification of admission is issued.

Application deadlines and grace periods for later submission of documents

According to § 3 Section 2 of the “Sächsische Studienplatzvergabeverordnung” (Saxon Study Places Allocation Regulations), the application for admission to the summer semester must be submitted by 15 January / for winter term by 15 July. Missing documents may be submitted later, until 21 January for summer term / 21 July for winter term, provided that the application for admission was submitted in time and meets the legal minimum requirements. The deadlines mentioned above are cut-off deadlines. Bitte beachten Sie, dass der Antrag in Papierform rechtzeitig dem Immatrikulationsamt (Außenstelle) vorliegt, da eine rückwirkende Exmatrikulation NICHT möglich ist.

Exmatrikulierte Studenten erhalten eine Exmatrikulationsbescheinigung und eine Studienzeitbestätigung (für Zwecke der gesetzlichen Rentenversicherung) an die von ihnen angegebene Anschrift gesandt.

The Faculty of Medicine has earlier deadlines for re-registration!

You need to re-register in time ­- by 15^th August for the winter semester and by 15^th February for the summer semester - to be eligible for allocation to the group lists and admission to the courses.

Leave of absence

You need to use the selma portal at https://portal.slm.tu-dresden.de to submit your application for leave of absence from your studies in due form and on time within the re-registration period, and you need to state the reasons for your application. As a rule, leave of absence is granted for only 2 semesters according to TU Dresden’s Enrolment Regulations .

Leave-of-absence semesters are not regarded as semesters of study and are not included in the standard period of study.

Further formalities when applying for leave of absence for a doctoral thesis / doctorate: written statement specifying the reasons why and to what extent doing doctoral studies will be conducive to your current degree programme. (There is no official template for this application, the only requirement being that you submit your request in any written form. German = formlos)

Confirmation from your doctoral supervisor stating your name, the period of time and the corresponding dissertation topic, using the letterhead of the institute/institution.

Before applying for the leave-of-absence semester, please inquire at the relevant institutions whether and under what conditions the “BaföG” (student loan) Office, the “Kindergeldkasse” (Child Benefit Fund) and also the “Halb-/Waisenrente” (Half-orphan’s Pension/Orphan's Pension) will continue to make payments in order for you to be spared any repayments.

Illness during courses requiring compulsory attendance

We recommend that

(a) you inform the relevant “Fachgebiet” (Department) by e-mail or by telephone

(b) you keep your sick note in order to be able, if necessary, to document your absence later

(c) you find out directly from the “Fachgebiet” (Department) if you can re-do parts of the course you missed, if the duration of your absence amounts to more than 15% of the course

lllness during performance reviews

If you withdraw from a performance review due to illness, you must present a medical certificate from an “Amtsarzt” (Public health officer) to the “Fachgebiet” (Department) no later than the third working day after the date of the performance review.  The effectiveness of the withdrawal depends on the approval of the “Fachgebiet” (Department). Approval will only be granted if your withdrawal was communicated promptly, if there are important reasons and these have been proven in good time.

Krankenversicherung

Für alle Studierenden besteht Krankenversicherungspflicht. Studienanfänger müssen vor Studienbeginn von ihrer Krankenkasse eine Bescheinigung über das bestehende Versicherungsverhältnis anfordern und diese im Immatrikulationsamt der Hochschule vorlegen.
Privat versicherte oder von der Versicherungspflicht befreite Studienanfänger legen eine Befreiungsbescheinigung der gesetzlichen Krankenkasse vor. (Achtung: Der Antrag auf Befreiung von der Krankenversicherung kann nur bis spätestens 3 Monate nach Studienbeginn bei der gesetzlichen Krankenkasse gestellt werden.)
Änderungen der Krankenversicherung sind dem Immatrikulationsamt bekanntzugeben.

Unfallversicherung

Studierende der Medizinischen Fakultät sind während ihres Studiums durch die Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung versichert. Die Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung tritt bei Wege- und Arbeitsunfällen sowie bei Berufskrankheiten ein. Studierende sind ortsunabhängig im Rahmen ihrer Ausbildung versichert. Sind Studenten während des PJ in einem anderen Bundesland tätig, ist die jeweils dort ansässige Landesunfallkasse zuständig.
Bei Auslandsaufenthalten (PJ, Famulatur, Auslandssemester, Austauschprogramme) besteht kein gesetzlicher Unfallversicherungsschutz.

Die Approbation für Ärzte sieht Ausbildungsabschnitte von je bis zu 2 Monaten Dauer (Krankenpflegedienst und Famulatur) vor. Hinsichtlich des Versicherungsschutzes und der Zuständigkeit gelten die Regelungen zu Praktika außerhalb der Hochschule. Der Famulant gilt als Praktikant und ist daher über das jeweilige Krankenhaus / die Artzpraxis bei der fachlich zuständigen Berufsgenossenschaft zu versichern.

Unfallmeldungen

Studierende, die auf dem Weg von zu Hause zum Studium bzw. vom Studium nach Hause oder während der Lehrveranstaltungen bzw. auf den Wegen zu den einzelnen Lehrveranstaltungen einen Unfall erleiden, sollen diesen sobald als möglich (i. d. R. spätestens nach 3 Tagen) - u. U. nach Aufsuchen eines Notarztes - im Sekretariat des Referates Lehre Ansprechpartner anzeigen. Die Meldung wird formgerecht an den Unfallversicherungsträger der TU weitergeleitet.

Das System IMS-m an der Medizinischen Fakultät Dresden
Das „Item Management System Medizin“ (IMSm) ist ein System zur Verwaltung, zum Austausch und zur Qualitätssicherung von Prüfungsinhalten (Review von Prüfungsfragen, Teststatistik- Trennschärfe/ Schwierigkeitsgrad). Es wurde am Kompetenzzentrum für Medizinische Prüfungen des Landes Baden-Württemberg an der Universität Heidelberg entwickelt und kooperiert mit der Charité Berlin und der LMU München und kann zur Entwicklung aller Prüfungsarten in Einzelfächern oder auch fachübergreifend beitragen. realisiert.

Das IMS wird seit dem Wintersemester 2007/2008 an der Medizinischen Faklultät eingesetzt. Dazu werden regelmäßig Schulungen durch das Referat Lehre/QM in der Lehre organisiert. ZIH-Login

Das ZIH betreibt das zentrale Identitätsmanagementsystem der TU Dresden. Der Nutzer erhält ein ZIH-Benutzer-Login, das als Grundlage für nahezu alle weiteren vom ZIH angebotenen Dienste zwingend erforderlich ist. An unserer Fakultät wird es für das ePortal, die Lernplattform "CASUS" und TU-weit für selma / campus net, E-Mail Zugang u. a. Dienste benötigt.

TU-Mitarbeiter
Mitarbeiter/innen der Medizinischen Fakultät erhalten im Rahmen einer Neueinstellung eine Coupon-ID in der Personalabteilung, welche die direkte Aktivierung erlaubt. Nicht-TU-Mitarbeiter/innen (z. B. des UKD), die in Forschung und Lehre tätig sind, können ein "ZIH-GAST-LOGIN" beantragen. Dafür benötigen diese Personen das Einverständnis eines TU-Mitarbeiters ("TU-Kontaktperson"). In der Regel ist dies der entsprechende Klinik- bzw. Institutsdirektor, der als Professor der TU Dresden die Zeichnung vollziehen darf. Es ist auch möglich, dass ein anderer TU-Mitarbeiter (z. B. Lehrverantwortlicher/Lehrkoordinator) als TU-Kontaktperson agiert.

“Studium generale” (lecture series)

The “Studium generale” comprises courses that have been designed and are offered in addition to the regular courses with university examinations (Diplom, Bachelor, Master, etc.). The aim is to expand general knowledge and to deepen the sense of responsibility in the development and application of scientific findings. For degree programmes with state examinations, these additional courses are purely optional.

Your attendance can be certified on attestation cards, which are handed out at the beginning of the first two lectures, and you can be awarded 1 ECTS credit. Pursuant to § 36 of the “Gesetz über die Hochschulen im Freistaat Sachsen” (Sächsisches Hochschulgesetz – SächsHSG, Law on the universities in the Free State of Saxony) of 10 December 2008 (SächsGVBl. p. 900), last amended by Article 10 of the Act of 26 June 2009 (SächsGVBl. p. 375, 377), and pursuant to § 2 section 7 of the “Approbationsordnung für Ärzte” (Licencing Regulations for Physicians) of 27 February 2002 (BGBl I 2002, 2405), last amended by Article 7 of the Act of 30 July 2009 (BGBl. I p. 2495), TU Dresden has issued Study Regulations for Medical Studies.

The “Studienordnung” (SO, Study Regulations) for Medical Studies of 26 May 2010 was published in the “Amtliche Bekanntmachungen der TUD” (Official Notices of TUD) of 16 June 2010. The SO has therefore been in effect and legally valid since 17 June 2010.

Proof of having passed the 2^nd section of the Medical Examination

New as of “Cohort May 2019”: online booking of PJ (practical year) places via the “PJ Portal” for all three “tertials” (four-monthly periods). Registration via the portal is mandatory for all students who start the PJ from this point in time, even if they do their PJ at hospitals that are not represented in the portal.

• From the start of registration, the students concerned can register in the PJ portal. As soon as you have received a confirmation e-mail, you will take part in the procedure.
• Then you will be verified by your home university (the home university will automatically receive a request to do this).
• From now on, you can lodge your desired places in the “memory list” and compile your plan.
• The overview of the respective clinic shows how many places are available.
• Since these numbers will change continuously during the booking period, you should always refresh and update the memory list (up to the point you are allowed to make binding bookings).
• The individual starting time will be determined by lottery procedure and communicated to the student by e-mail.
• From the individual starting time onwards, you can make bindings bookings for the three tertials.
• As soon as you are logged in at your personal starting time, your request will then be held for 150 seconds and will be extended repeatedly as soon as you update the availability, up to the time of booking.
• General medicine can be found in the PJ-Portal under “Lehrpraxen Allgemeinmedizin” (Teaching practices general medicine).
• Tertials abroad (teaching hospitals abroad that are recognised by the LPA) are booked in the system as “Ausland” (abroad).
• Domestic tertials at teaching hospitals that are not currently participating in the PJ-Portal project are booked as “Inland” (domestic).
• When selecting the optional subject, please ensure that it is a recognised optional subject of the home university (and thus of the relevant state examination office).
• In the system, you can apply to be recognised as a case of hardship. These cases will be processed and decided before the starting times are allocated.
• If you want to request a (permitted) split, you must also enter it in the PJ portal. However, such “sub-tertials” cannot be booked directly in the PJ portal.
• Students wishing to withdraw their application to do the PJ must inform the “Referat Lehre” (Teaching Department) in writing immediately (e.g. by e-mail).
• Once you have registered, you can find further information on how to use the PJ-Portal under the heading “Hilfe” (Help).

Wichtige Information zur Beurlaubung

1. Eine Beurlaubung wird empfohlen, wenn im Ausland nur wenige Leistungen erbracht werden können und absehbar ist, dass Sie nach der Rückkehr hier noch viel absolvieren müssen. 

2. Wir empfehlen keine Beurlaubung, wenn im Ausland hingegen viele Leistungsnachweise erbracht werden können.

Anerkennung von Studienleistungen

Wir empfehlen für die Nachbereitung, Anerkennung Ihrer absolvierten Leistungen und die Organisation des weiteren Studiums mindestens 4 Wochen vor Vorlesungsbeginn einzuplanen. Gern helfen wir im Referat Lehre weiter.

Im Rahmen des ERASMUS-Austauschprogrammes werden Leistungen durch das „Transcript of Records“ (ToR) in international standardisierter Weise bestätigt. Ist die Prüfung im Ausland erfolgreich abgeschlossen worden, werden diese Leistungen prinzipiell anerkannt.

Die Anerkennung von komplett abgeschlossenen Fachgebieten (die den Leistungsnachweisen lt. Approbationsordung entsprechen) erfolgt ausschließlich durch das Sächsische Landesprüfungsamt für  akademische Heilberufe (SächsLPA Äquivalenzbescheinigung Med2). Entscheidend für die Anerkennung ist die positive Note. Die Studierenden legen dafür dem LPA das ToR vor. Die Anrechnung der im Ausland erbrachten Studienleistungen durch das LPA ist gebührenpflichtig (dzt. € 35).

Die Anerkennung von Teilleistungen erfolgt im Fachgebiet durch den für den entsprechenden Leistungsnachweis verantwortlichen Fachvertreter, der nach Komplettierung der Anforderungen dann auch den Leistungsnachweis ausstellt. Es muss, insbesondere in den Fächern Innere Medizin und Chirurgie, die Kombination der jeweiligen Teilleistungen beachtet werden (Bspw. müssen alle Teilleistungen der Klausur 1 im Fach Chirurgie erfolgreich abgelegt worden sein, andernfalls ist keine Anerkennung möglich und die gesamte Klausur muss an der Medizinischen Fakultät der TU Dresden wiederholt werden).

Bittte sprechen Sie das Prüfungsamt der MF bezüglich der Formulare zur Anerkennung von Teilleistungen.

Auslandsstudium an anderen Hochschulen außerhalb ERASMUS

DIPOL®

stands for “Dresdner Integratives Problem-/ Praxis-/ Patienten- Orientiertes Lernen”. (Dresden Integrative Problem-/ Practice-/ Patient-oriented Learning) The reform curriculum DIPOL® is a hybrid curriculum consisting of new and traditional elements. Lectures are retained to a reduced extent. Courses, internships and bedside teaching are integrated to an increased extent. New elements are: teaching in small groups in tutorials (8 to 10 students) under the guidance of a trained tutor, case discussions, self-study time for students, modern forms of teaching and learning (multimedia etc.), interdisciplinary teaching and new forms of examinations. All elements required by the new ÄAppO (Licencing Regulations for Physicians) are integrated within DIPOL®.

Lost property

is to be handed in to the “Wachschutz” (Site security) at the main gate (Tel.: 2019). At the Faculty of Medicine, lost property should be handed over to the facility management in the MTZ (Medical Theoretical Centre, Tel.: 458-6668). In the clinic, lost property is collected in the patient admissions and forwarded to the lost property office (Tel.: 458-3217). The lost property office is located in House 62, room 0.214, Schubertstraße 18. After one month of storage, lost property will be handed over to the “Ordnungsamt/Fundbüro” (Public order office/Lost property office) of the City of Dresden.
