Bakteriopolis: The hidden world of microbes - Opening of the exhibition - 06.06. 4 pm - Alte Mensa
The traveling exhibition Bakteriopolis offers visitors of all ages a fascinating insight into the world of microbes! Here you can learn more about the omnipresence and diverse abilities of bacteria.
As coordinator of the priority area "Emergent Functions of Bacterial Multicellularity" (SPP 2389) funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Chair of General Microbiology at TU Dresden acts as an important interface between science and public relations.
An existing overseas container at the university is being redesigned as part of Bakteriopolis to offer visitors a comprehensive insight into the world of bacteria. The various components of a bacterial cell can be explored with the help of an augmented reality application developed by the Chair of Multimedia Technology. Various hands-on stations such as exploring the family tree of life, microscopy or making water kefir give visitors an insight into the microcosm of bacteria.
The aim is to present science in an understandable, transparent and yet technically correct way. The current Microbe of the Year (chosen by the Association for General and Applied Microbiology, VAAM) serves as a vivid example of multicellular associations and the associated functional advantages. The traveling exhibition will be presented for the first time at the annual conference of the VAAM and DGHM (German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology) in Würzburg.
In Dresden, Bakteriopolis can be viewed from June 5 at Mommsenstraße 15.
A festive opening of the exhibition will take place on 06.06 at 4 pm directly in front of the Alte Mensa. We look forward to your visit!
