Vortrag über Meta-Analysen
Meta-Analyzing in Biology and Beyond
Abstract: As biologists, we are all interested in variation. However, the statistical tools we use compare means between groups, not differences in variance. About five years ago, my colleagues and I proposed a meta-analytic method to compare differences in variability between two different groups. I will briefly introduce that method, and then, I showcase what studies this method has been used for to provide new insights into different fields such as ecology, evolution, agriculture, clinical & neurosciences and even education.
Bio: Shinichi is originally from Japan but has studied and worked in New Zealand, UK, Germany and Australia. He is currently a professor of evolutionary biology and synthesis at UNSW, Sydney. His work revolves around understanding individual variation and its maintenance.
