BIOLOGY - TEACHER TRAINING AT HIGH SCHOOL / SECONDARY SCHOOLS / VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS
The degree program in Biology aims to prepare prospective teachers for the requirements and challenges of the teaching profession in terms of subject matter, didactics and pedagogy. In subject-specific modules in botany, zoology, human biology, cell biology and genetics, ecology and many more, knowledge is acquired and applied with a high practical component (internships, excursions, etc.). In the subject-specific didactic modules, students transfer and reflect on their own professional competence in the practical areas of activity of a teacher.
The majority of courses are designed and implemented exclusively for prospective teachers. Whether in the practical school exercises and block internship or through constant cooperation with schools and visits to school classes in the university teaching-learning rooms - practical relevance characterizes the teacher training course at TU Dresden.
Course content
The course covers the important subject areas of botany, zoology, ecology and human biology as well as genetics, cell and molecular biology. In the compulsory elective area, students can set individual priorities and create an in-depth subject profile in teaching-related biological content areas, such as zoopedagogy, school garden biology and bionics. Biology didactics deals with the teaching and learning of biology and the associated general didactic principles. Teaching concepts and methods, (digital) media use and target- and addressee-oriented lesson planning are taught. The in-depth didactics modules deal with selected concepts, such as education for sustainable development, and develop skills in scientific work as well as analyzing empirical didactic teaching/learning research.
The degree program is offered by the Chair of Didactics of Biology and concludes with the first state examination. Detailed information can be found on the study pages of the Didactics of Biology and the central pages of the study information system.
