Bachelor Molecular Biology and Biotechnology
The Molecular Biology and Biotechnology course translates basic biological and biotechnological knowledge into practical specialisms, experimental work and critical observation – for an optimum qualification for both an academic career and in preparation for a variety of practical professional roles. Modules in botany, zoology, cell and microbiology, genetics and more supplement a range of practical work. As well as theoretical knowledge, the course's compulsory and optional modules also include methodology and insights into professional practice; in the 5th semester you will also have the possibility to study at another university or abroad.
The Dresden programme is integrated into an active research environment, especially the close cooperation with the Biotechnology Centre (BIOTEC). With its synergies of fundamental and applied research, theory and practice, the course prepares students for the challenges of modern science and technology. Due to the large amount of practical work, this course is not suitable for part-time study.
Study content
The course focuses on molecular aspects of the subject matter, as well as biology and biotechnology topics. Basic biological and biotechnology-relevant knowledge of chemistry, mathematics and physics, as well as the basics of molecular, cell and organismic biology and evolution, are complemented by natural, life science and biotechnology methods, including statistics and their application in the laboratory and practice.
The optional modules are an initial opportunity for students to cultivate their academic profile. Basic bio-safety and environmental issues, biological and biotechnology-relevant legislation and regulations, as well as the guidelines of good scientific practice, complete your preparation for the challenges of the professional world. The Bachelor's course ends with a scientific dissertation.
