Describtion and objectives:
The lecture is part of the module MA-CH-MRBO 08 "Modern Methods of Analysis". It is addressed to 1st semester master students of chemistry and other interested students of higher semesters in the field of chemistry and food chemistry as well as users of mass spectrometry and vibration spectroscopy. In addition to the presentation of the "classical" methods, the functionality and applicability of modern techniques will be discussed. The listeners will get an overview of methods and possibilities of mass spectrometry and vibrational spectroscopy available today.
Course units:
Mass spectrometry:
- Working principle of a mass spectrometer
- Modern ionization methods
- Ion separation Techniques
- Coupling of chromatography and mass spectrometry
- Inorganic mass spectrometry
Vibrational spectroscopy:
- Instrumental basics
- Special measuring techniques of IR and Raman spectroscopy
- Microscopy and Imaging
- Characteristics of spectra of different substance classes and states
Evidence of academic achievement: written exam with grading or participation certificate
