This lecture (3 SWS) + seminar/excercise (1 SWS) for Master students (Chemistry Master) and PhD students is also eligible for students of other faculties, e.g., from the School of Science.

This lecture teaches the fundamantal principles of NMR spectroscopy as well as its applications for molecular structure determination in chemistry, materials and life sciences.
Main topics:
- "classical" vector model, Bloch equations and relaxation
- product operator formalism
- RF pulses and pulse sequences
- 1D and 2D Fourier transform NMR spectroscopy
- magnetic interactions (chemical shift, J coupling, magnetic dipole-dipole interaction, electric quadrupole interaction)
- nuclear Overhauser effect (NOE)
- molecular structure determination especially by liquid-state NMR spectroscopy
- basic principles of solid-state NMR spectroscopy
