Research in the Chemical Biology Group
We use chemical biology to develop biochemically, biologically, or optically targeted organic small molecule reagents for research and for translational therapeutic applications. This fascinating and challenging goal brings together organic synthesis, biochemistry, cell biology, and in vivo biology.
Functional Reagents for Chemical Biology
Our research centres on the chemical design and biological applications of functional reagents: molecules that change their structure to carry out a task or to report ongoing biological activity. We work on reagents that:
- use light to photocontrol key biological actors underlying cell division and signaling
- exploit multistep reaction cascades to selectively target thiol/selenol oxidoreductases
- introduce new chemical concepts for high-performance optical imaging.
