RTG 2861 focuses on the targeted development and in-depth understanding of planar carbon lattices (PCLs). By closely linking chemical synthesis, modern characterization and theoretical modelling, the potential of novel PCL materials for future applications is to be tapped.

The SFB/TRR 280 is developing new principles for resource-saving construction with carbon concrete. The focus is on innovative construction strategies based on biological structures and concepts from mathematics and art. The aim is to design material-minimized construction elements made of mineral composites that can be manufactured efficiently and used sustainably. The recycling of carbon fiber-reinforced components to recover high-quality materials without loss of quality is also a central component of the research.

In the Cluster of Excellence CARE, TU Dresden and RWTH Aachen University are working on climate-friendly building materials, resource-conserving construction methods and digital planning and production technologies. The aim is to develop durable, efficient and safe buildings that can be produced and used sustainably.
