The statistical superpowers of AI algorithms

Everyone is talking about artificial intelligence. But how can AI actually make such precise predictions or talk to us like a human?

To answer these questions, we need to understand how AI algorithms process information from data and transform it into one of the most powerful statistical models mankind has ever developed: a neural network.

Imma Curato is a professor of statistics at Chemnitz University of Technology. In her research, she investigates the mathematical foundations of AI algorithms for spatio-temporal data.

In conversation with Andreas Thom, she vividly explains why AI algorithms are such successful problem solvers and why we need not be afraid that they will turn against us - at least for the time being!
