Obituary for Prof. Dr. Adolf Rhodius

The Faculty of Mathematics mourns the loss of Professor Dr. Adolf Rhodius, who passed away in September 2024 at the age of 83.

Adolf Rhodius was initially a lecturer at the Dresden University of Education (PH) and came to TU Dresden in 1992 as Professor of Analysis/Operator Theory. He held this Chair at the Institute of Analysis until his retirement in 2006. Particularly noteworthy is his great commitment to the training of student teachers - a commitment that stemmed from his time at the PH and was noticeably close to his heart.

However, Professor Rhodius was not only a highly esteemed and extremely popular university lecturer, he was also a colleague who always sought conciliation and compromise. He also had a great sense of humour and was friendly and approachable at all times. We therefore remember a remarkable man with fondness and deep gratitude and will always honour his memory.
