Microsoft Imagine (former Dreamspark and MSDNAA) contract
Since 2008, all employees and students of the Faculty of Physics have had the opportunity to obtain free licenses of Microsoft operating systems and developer tools within the framework of an "Imagine Premium" contract with Microsoft (formerly "DreamSpark" and "MSDNAA").
With another renaming as "Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching" and an unannounced capping of the link to the Kivuto portal, this offer is no longer usable.
Microsoft Office
Since February 2014, students of the TU Dresden and other participating Saxon universities have been able to use Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus on up to five devices under Windows and MacOS free of charge with the conclusion of the Microsoft state contract. Cloud services - such as SharePoint and SkyDrive - are not included in this version. With Office 365 ProPlus, every student who has successfully registered for the service will always receive the latest version of Office as a subscription at no additional cost. Authentication is required every 30 days to use this service. If no feedback is received, documents can still be read but can no longer be edited. A valid university login is required to use the software. The ZIH provides a portal for registration and extension throughout Saxony, which is used for authentication via the respective university. In this way, an anonymous account is created for the students, with which they can register directly with the manufacturer Microsoft to download the software. It is not necessary to provide personal data to Microsoft.
