The sunny institute
At the Institute for Applied Physics, we research the diverse facets of the interaction between light and matter. The guiding principle of our scientific work is the close interlinking between basic research, applied research and technological innovation. We undertake many exciting projects and develop innovations and products for the future. Several successful start-ups have already been spun off from our institute. We see ourselves as an engine of the regional technology cluster for organic electronics. The Master’s course "Organic and Molecular Electronics" established by us attracts students from all over the world.
Currently (July 2021) around 180 students and employees at 5 chairs and 2 locations are working at the IAP.
Science - Technology - Innovation
In the tradition of Hermann Krone, the pioneer of photography in Dresden and Saxony in the 19th century and the pioneering achievements of the former "Scientific Photographic Institute", the scientists at the IAP are researching the physics of light in all its forms. The analysis of physical laws is only at the beginning of the scientific work. The transfer of new knowledge into innovative technologies and products is just as important here. Accordingly, all research results are checked not only for scientific but also economic exploitation, through publications and conference contributions on the one hand and through patents and spin-offs on the other.
