This project focuses on compounds with specific geometries, magnetic moments, and anisotropies that are likely to closely approximate the model Hamiltonians proposed theoretically for frustrated, topological, and spin-liquid ground states. These compounds are predominantly insulating, light-transition-metal or rare-earth oxides, where the frustration is driven predominantly by the geometry and competing interactions. Each work package concentrates on a particular type of lattice: honeycomb, pyrochlore, breathing pyrochlore, face-centered cubic, and other novel frustrated geometries. The goal is to discover new frustrated materials, characterize their properties, and produce high-quality single crystals for further investigation.
