Starting Your Physics Studies

Hello to everyone who is starting a physics degree here at TU Dresden (and everyone else too :) ). Glad you landed on this page. 

Let us first briefly introduce ourselves. We are the Physics Student Council, consisting of a few elected and associated members (physics students) and represent the interests of all physics students at TU Dresden. We are the first point of contact for students if they have any questions or problems. We also organize various entertainment/education/help events throughout the semester, such as joint barbecue evenings, colloquia or the ESE. So don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. Why should you definitely visit ESE?

In addition to the obvious reason, namely that the ESE is a lot of fun, you also get to know an incredible number of extremely talented young people here, who are often very similar to yourself.

When studying physics, you attend weekly lectures (= frontal teaching), calculate exercises and discuss them together in exercises, hand in homework and complete an internship (= do experiments in the laboratory).

Said tasks are usually difficult to solve (especially not entirely alone) due to both the sheer quantity and the level of difficulty. This can quickly lead to a lot of frustration and mental problems. It's important to know that you are not alone. Each of us knows this. Good solidarity and an awareness of the well-being of others is therefore elementary for us physics students! In the ESE you will have the opportunity to get to know many of your new friends. You can tell your questions, fears and hopes to us. So take advantage of the opportunity and come to the introductory weeks so that you can start your studies well prepared!
