PROMPt (10/2018 till 09/2021)
PROMPt stands for "Primary indicated and optimized allocation in emotional and behavioural problems in children".
The project is led by Apl. Prof Susanne Knappe and Prof. Dr. Katja Beesdo-Baum from the Institute for Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (IKPP) at the Dresden University of Technology, in cooperation with:
Prof. Dr. med. Rössner (Clinic and Polyclinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital Dresden),
Prof. J. Schmitt (Center for Evidence-Based Health Care (ZEGV), Chair of Social Medicine and Health Care Research, Medical Faculty Carl Gustav Carus of Dresden University of Technology) and AOK Plus
Aim
We want to identify children at risk for emotional and behavioural problems during their routine paediatric assessments. Our aim is to then immediately offer parents an established prevention program, or in the case of pronounced symptoms further clarification and/or referrals to specialised care.
Procedure
Children aged 5 to 10 years will be screened with the standardised Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) during their regular paediatric assessments (U-Untersuchungen: U9 (5- 6 Jahre), U10 (7-8 Jahre), U11 (9-10 Jahre)), as part of an ongoing cooperation between the AOK Plus and paediatricians in Dresden.
The medical team will issue parents with copies of the SDQ and other study-related questionnaires at the beginning of each visit. Parents may then voluntarily complete the questionnaires in the waiting area. Participating families will then receive feedback from their paediatrician on the results of the questionnaires. Depending on the values indicated, children may or may not be referred to one of our established prevention programs (“Being brave with Til Tiger” or “Stress management training for defiant children”).
In the event that one of our prevention programs is recommended, families may contact our study team to arrange a personal, in which will be discussed how best to proceed. If the child is interested and suited to our program, the consent of the child and his/her legal guardians will be obtained. Participation in the program is not possible without signed consent.
The project is funded by the 3rd funding wave for the open-topic promotion of new forms of care for the further development of care in statutory health insurance (innovation fund), in the amount of 1.4 million Euros.
