Studying at the ICPP
The Institute of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy offers a research-oriented, specialized psychology master's program with a focus on clinical psychology and psychotherapy and is involved in the bachelor psychology program at TU Dresden.
Studying at the Institute
At the Institute of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at TU Dresden, we offer the Master's degree program in Psychology with focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, which entitles students to register for the psychotherapeutic examination in accordance with the licensing regulations for psychotherapists (PsychThApprO). Our Institute is also responsible for teaching clinical psychology in the Bachelor's degree program in Psychology.
The four-semester Master's degree course comprises research and practice-related content that is closely interlinked. In the first year, students acquire knowledge in clinical-psychological diagnostics, interviewing, disorder models, intervention procedures, research methods and evaluation. In the second year, the focus is on practical skills in direct contact with patients in outpatient and inpatient psychotherapeutic care. In addition, students deepen their practical research skills in the planning, implementation and evaluation of scientific studies as part of a research internship and the Master's thesis.
We carry out the three-month inpatient internship at the end of the study program, the so-called professional qualification activity III, together with cooperation clinics in the region. We are open to further cooperation partners. If your clinic is interested in offering internships for Master's students, please contact us.
Students have their own teaching and seminar rooms in the Falkenbrunnen building (Chemnitzer Str. 46b) and at the University Outpatient Clinic for Psychotherapy (Hohe Str. 53). Students are systematically involved in the Institute's research activities in the areas of cognitive control, social neuroscience, early childhood mental health and clinical epidemiology. Graduates of the Master's degree course are eligible for employment as clinical psychologists in science and practice, licensure as psychotherapists and subsequent further training as specialist psychotherapists
