Study Progress Indicator
The starting point for the study progress indicator are the study plans, which are derived from the study regulations. The study progress indicator records deviations from the recommended study plan.
The following three criteria and their values describe possible deviations from the recommended study plan and are recorded for each examined (pre-)assessment:
- Failed examined assessment
- The number of valid failed attempts is indicated for each examined assessment
- If a previously failed examined assessment is passed, its contribution to the value is 0 from this moment onwards
- Postponed examined assessment
- If an examined assessment is not passed in the target semester, the value is increased by 1 in the current semester, by 2 in the following semester, and so on
- If an examined assessment is passed before, in or after the target semester, its contribution to the value is 0
- Examined assessment passed ahead of schedule
- If an examined assessment is passed early, i.e. before the target semester, the value is increased by 1 until the target semester is reached
Consideration of two exemplary examined assessments
- Examined assessment A
- Target semester is the 1st semester
- Attempt 1 and 2 take place in the 2nd and 3rd semester and are not passed
- Attempt 3 takes place in the 5th semester and is passed
- Examined assessment B
- Target semester is the 4th semester
- Attempt 1 takes place in the 1st semester and is passed
Semester | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Examined assessment A: postponed | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 0 |
Examined assessment A: failed | 0 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 0 |
Examined assessment B: passed ahead of schedule | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Two standardized (partial) scores are calculated from the values for each semester:
- Partial score for postponed examined assessment: failed examined assessments minus the examined assessment passed ahead of schedule
- Partial score for passed examined assessments: failed examined assessments minus the examined assessments passed ahead of schedule
If a partial score exceeds a threshold, a notification is sent by email.
“Difficult” modules have a higher weighting in the calculation than “easy” modules. The weighting of a module reflects the probability of passing.
The PASST! team will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the calculation.
