Dresden University of Technology cares about each and every student and their successful studies. A hassle-free course of study cannot be taken for granted. Challenging situations can arise at any time.
With PASST?! students and the Dresden University of Technology enter into a partnership for successful studies: PASST?! Partnership · Successful Studies · TU Dresden. In this partnership we will provide support throughout the course of your studies, depending on your needs. Participation is voluntary, free of charge and open to all students.
Objective
The goal of the early warning system is to identify difficult study courses that could potentially jeopardize study success and lead to an early dropout and to provide students with individual counseling and support services.
Workflow PASST?! Participation
Participation
You can log in and out of PASST?! at any time in the selma portal:
- Log in to the selma portal with your ZIH-Login and your password.
- In the menu to the left click 'Account'.
- Scroll down to the section 'Additional personal details'.
- Here you will find your current PASST?! participation status. Click the ‘Edit‘ function button on the right to change your participation status.
- Using the drop-down menu, choose ‘Ich nehme teil.’ (I take part.) if you wish to participate in the early warning system. Choose ‘Ich nehme nicht teil.’ (I do not take part.) if you do not wish to participate or you wish to withdraw. Once you have done so, click ‘Save’.
- After the status change, there is no further confirmation.

Dresden University of Technology complies with the regulations of data protection law. This means that only the students alone, voluntarily decide whether they participate in the early warning system PASST?! or not. For more information on how we handle your data, please refer to our Data Protection Declaration and Declaration of Consent.
Check
If you have agreed to participate in PASST?!, your study progress data will automatically be checked each semester for potentially problematic developments.
This includes e.g.
- the acquisition of a low number of credit points over a prolonged period of time,
- the repeated failure to pass an examination
- or prolonged periods of study.
If one or more of the warnings occur, you will automatically receive an email with current offers from various counseling centers and programs of Dresden University of Technology. If none of the features apply to your course of study, PASST?! will nonetheless give you feedback, so you can keep track of everything.
Support
The offers listed in the emails can help you find out, among other things:
- where you can find specific help
- how you can best prepare for exams
- which work techniques you can use
- how to make decisions faster
- how to formulate your goals more clearly
- how to deal with doubts about your studies
- whether the right time has come for a sabbatical, an internship or a stay abroad
- whether your course of study (still) fits
It is solely your decision whether you want to use one of these offers or not. Those who do not participate will not suffer any disadvantages.
Thecounseling and support services of Dresden University of Technology are open to all students of Dresden University of Technology at any time for voluntary participation free of charge - irrespective of whether you participate in the early system PASST?! or not. Counseling is confidential and, if desired, anonymous.

FAQ
PASST?! is TU Dresden's Early Warning System. Whether you are in your 2nd or 9th semester, if problems arise in the course of your study that could jeopardize your study success and, in the long term, lead to you dropping out, PASST?! will provide you with indications early on. The Early Warning System regularly (at least once a semester) checks your course of study data. The review is based on specially designed warning notices. If one or more of the warning notices apply to your study, you will be notified by PASST?! via email and receive a selection of suitable, free of charge support and counseling offers, which you can use if required. Participation in the Early Warning System is voluntary.
By participating in the early warning system PASST?!, you will receive regular and early on feedback on your course of study and thereby use your personal safety and support net.
If problems arise during your course of study, you will automatically receive an email with suitable counseling and support offers. Thus, you always have an up-to-date overview and can freely decide whether you want to use these offers.
The findings of PASST?! also flow anonymously into the quality management of the TU Dresden and consequently help to improve the degree programs and study conditions.
You can log in and out of PASST?! at any time in the selma portal.
If you have already registered with PASST?! in the course of the university place application process , you do not need to register again. You can cancel your participation in PASST?! at any time. In this case you will not receive any further emails from us.

Students of both examination administration systems can participate: selma and HISQIS.
Participation in PASST?! only takes place with your consent. The majority of participants has agreed to participate in PASST?! as part of the university place application process. You can view and change your current status at any time in the selma portal. If you have been mistakenly contacted as a participant, please contact with your matriculation number.
During the data check, your course of study is automatically checked for warning notices. Currently, PASST?! uses five such so-called indicators. If an indicator matches your course of study, PASST?! will send you an email.
More information about the warning notices
First of all: You will not suffer any disadvantages if you only take note of the mail from PASST?!, e.g. if you consciously arrange your course of study differently than planned in the study schedule. The advice and support services provided are options that you can take advantage of; there is no obligation to do so.
Please note, however, that the PASST?! mails are sent based on warning notices that most likely indicate a hazard to you study success. The aim of PASST?! is to provide you with this information and to support you in the best possible way in case of possible problems.
Regardless of whether you participate in the early warning system PASST?! or not, you can always contact the student counselors at the Central Student Information and Counseling Service or take part in our workshops.
Please read the email you received from PASST?! thoroughly and completely. If you have been contacted by mistake, please inform us about it () and state your matriculation number, your current program of study and possible special features of your course of study (e.g. part-time study, stay abroad, vacation semester, parallel study, etc.) so that we can understand and clarify the error.
Please note that the majority of the warning notices is based on the examination results of the previous semester and therefore short-term changes in your course of study probably cannot be taken into account in our email.
If, from your point of view, you have received a PASST?! email by mistake, this does not have any disadvantages for you, as we only want to send you information about current advising and support options.
The Early Warning System only uses selected data from the student and examination administration of the TU Dresden after you have given your consent. A list of the scope and type of processing can be found in our data protection declaration of consent.
