Talk marking Holocaust Remembrance Day: Contemporary witness Renate Aris speaks at TUD
On January 28, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., Renate Aris, the last Holocaust survivor from Dresden, will be a guest at TU Dresden for a conversation with contemporary witnesses. Born in Dresden in 1935, she narrowly escaped deportation and murder and was one of only 41 surviving Jews in Dresden after the end of World War II. This will be the third time that Renate Aris speaks at TUD about her moving life story. She will share personal memories of the Nazi era, her survival, and the challenges of starting over. The talk offers a rare opportunity to learn firsthand what exclusion, persecution, and racism meant during the Nazi era. The 90-year-old does not let her age deter her from her tireless efforts to prevent history from being forgotten – she continues to speak primarily to young people. Aris combines her memories of the Nazi era with an unyielding, highly topical plea for humanity, enlightenment, and moral courage.
Registration is required to participate in the event. The venue will be announced after registration.
All participants are responsible for treating each other with respect and consideration. Any behaviour to the contrary will not be tolerated.
The event will take place in a room with minimal barriers and will be conducted in German language.
The event is part of the Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony. With the kind support of the Commissioner against Antisemitism at TU Dresden , Prof. Maria Häusl, and Jüdische Allianz Mitteldeutschland.
