Culture.garden! meets Bioblitz: GorbitzDialog on 18.03.2026 on urban biodiversity.
The first GorbitzDialog 2026 took place on March 18 under the theme "Biodiversity in urban areas". Twice a year for the past three years, the GorbitzDialog has given schoolchildren, scientists and residents of the Dresden-Gorbitz district the opportunity to exchange ideas on a variety of topics. Students reflect on their first research experiences in this context and can classify them in conversation with scientists from TU Dresden - often with the aha-experience of getting pretty close to real science!
Biodiversity in urban areas: From Kultur.Garten! and a BioBlitz.
Pupils from Dresden-Gorbitz High School presented their projects from the school's "Kultur.Garten!" profile as part of the dialog evening. They presented practical approaches that can be used to promote native insect and bird species in a targeted manner. By creating near-natural habitats, planting insect-friendly plants and installing bird feeders, the young people want to make a concrete contribution to preserving biodiversity in the urban environment.
In the second part of the event, Anne Göhre (TUD | Academic Staff, Chair of Didactics of Biology) and board member of the Association of Botanical Gardens e. V., reported on the botanical gardens' "BioBlitz" project. This took place in 2025 during Botanical Garden Week, organized by the Association of Botanical Gardens, and pursued a citizen science approach. The aim of the project was to work with the public to record the insect diversity in botanical gardens in German-speaking countries at a specific point in time.
