Admission requirements
To be admitted to the degree program, candidates must have completed a first vocational university degree in Psychology with a concentration in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy recognized in Germany, which corresponds to the specifications of the first portion of a degree program pursuant to § 9 PsychThG und § 8 Number 1 PsychThApprO in terms of content and structure, and which meets the legal occupational requirements according to the responsible body under Saxon state law pursuant to § 9 Paragraph 3 PsychThG. Proof must be provided via reference on a certificate or official notice.
Furthermore, this degree program also requires English language proficiency at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

International applicants and German applicants with a foreign university entrance qualification are kindly advised to read the requirements for German-language courses.
Notes on the application process
If, at the time of application, proof of the first degree qualifying the applicant for a profession is not yet available, the application will be considered under the precondition that 80 % of the credit points attainable for the degree have already been achieved based on completed module examinations or the final thesis and the colloquium (if applicable). A certification from the awarding institute of higher education (examination office) serves as proof of the above-mentioned academic achievements. The certification should also contain a preliminary average grade calculated on the basis of completed graded academic work. You can find the appropriate form on the Admissions Office website.
General information about the degree program
The Master’s degree program in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy is divided into modules and features a curriculum organized over four semesters. The Master’s degree program comprises nine compulsory modules, six of which provide all the necessary knowledge and skills for diagnostics, interviewing, disorder models, intervention procedures as well as clinical research methods and evaluation. Three modules are dedicated to the acquisition of specific practical and research-oriented skills. In these modules, you will gain the fundamental skills and theoretical knowledge necessary for research activities in planning, conducting and evaluating scientific studies at a university research institution or university outpatient clinic. You will also acquire the most important skills required for direct contact with patients receiving outpatient, inpatient, and semi-inpatient psychotherapeutic care.

Occupational fields
After completing this Master’s degree program, graduates have the professional qualifications they need to work in the field of clinical psychology. They also fulfill the requirements for admission to the approbation test for a license to work as a psychotherapist in accordance with the Psychotherapy Act (Psychotherapeutengesetz) and regulations on licensing for psychotherapists.
