Continuing education for lecturers & staff
There are many opportunities for lecturers and staff to learn about education for sustainable development (ESD) and the integration of sustainability topics and methods in teaching. You can attend a continuing education course, or make use of the numerous teaching method overviews available. We have put together a selection for you.
Continuing education opportunities
Sustainable teaching depends on the teaching staff. If you decide to incorporate sustainability in your teaching, you can peruse the courses already on offer, sign up for personalized coaching, or share your needs with the continuing education team.
- Saxony-wide course program offered by the Center for University Didactics in Saxony (HDS): Each semester, the HDS offers a variety of continuing education courses on relevant topics in university didactics. Specific and regular continuing education on the topic of education for sustainable development (ESD) has not previously been included in the permanent program, but the program does include fundamental professional development courses that support knowledge of the university didactic shift from teaching to learning. - Coaching services from the Green Office and the Center for Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching (ZiLL): How much sustainability is actually incorporated in my teaching? How and where can I increase it? Take advantage of a didactic ESD teaching portfolio screening! Get personalized support in developing your ESD-focused teaching plan. Offers for doctoral candidates and postdocs can be found in the qualification program of the Graduate Academie and the Postdoc Center. The workshops for the winter semester 2023 will be published on the 7th of September.
Method overviews
- Blue Engineering: This group works to familiarize STEM students all across Germany with the topics of sustainability and ethics. To this end, they have put together a comprehensive toolbox of methods. http://www.blue-engineering.org/wiki/English
- Teaching guidelines from HOCH N: The HOCH N project was a collaborative project that developed guidelines for sustainability at institutions of higher education in various fields of action. - BNE Sachsen: Based on the German National Action Plan on Education for Sustainable Development, Saxony set up a process with civil society to develop the Saxon State Strategy for ESD (in German), which lays out both specific and potential measures for implementing ESD in six areas of education. The Saxon “BNE Portal” (ESD portal) is the result of the cooperative efforts of the Saxon State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs, Engagement Global GmbH, and Entwicklungspolitische Netzwerk Sachsen, beginning in 2014.
