The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has named TUD laser expert Prof. Andrés Lasagni as a Henriette Herz Scout

Andrés Fabián Lasagni, Chair of Laser-based Manufacturing at TUD Dresden University of Technology, has been selected as a Henriette Herz Scout by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. This program enables outstanding researchers in Germany to bring up to three international research talents, including at least one female researcher, to their own institution for a Humboldt Research Fellowship.

At the Chair of Laser-based Manufacturing at TU Dresden and as Director of the Center for Advanced Micro-Photonics (CAMP) at Fraunhofer IWS, Prof. Andrés Lasagni and his team develop innovative laser-based methods for the functionalization of surfaces in a targeted manner. He is considered one of the pioneers of Direct Laser Interference Patterning (DLIP), which enables the rapid and precise fabrication of large-area micro- and nanostructures. Applications range from energy and medical technology to low-wear, antibacterial, and optically functional surfaces.

“I am very pleased to have the opportunity to bring outstanding young international talent into my team quickly and without red tape,” says Andrés Lasagni. “Bringing excellent early-career researchers from abroad to Germany is a win-win situation: They gain access to our research infrastructure and scientific network, while we benefit from new perspectives, methods, technologies, and fields of application. This leads to new ideas and long-term international collaborations.”

Prof. Lasagni is one of a total of 19 Scouts selected this year by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He has published more than 500 scientific papers and holds over 30 patents. For his research, he has received, among other honors, the FEMS Materials Science and Technology Prize and second prize in the international Berthold Leibinger Innovation Award. He has been a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech).
