AI Solutions for Industrial Transformation: Uwe Wieland is TUD Alumnus of the Month
The Alumnus of the Month for November, Prof. Uwe Wieland, studied business informatics at TUD.
November’s alumnus of the month is an expert in business information systems. Prof. Uwe Wieland studied business informatics at TUD Dresden University of Technology and is now developing AI-based software for industrial transformation at the Volkswagen Group. In addition, he is an honorary professor at HTW Dresden and is on the Industry 4.0 Research Advisory Board and the supervisory board of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence.
He is particularly interested in how people, organizations, and technologies can work together to shape the future. This idea also gave rise to the non-profit initiative matchIO, through which intergenerational learning and exchange between education, industry and society can be bolstered.
He fondly recalls the close connection between academia and practice, as well as the openness at TUD to cross-disciplinary collaboration. His advice to students: “Don’t just focus on the technical stuff. Learn to properly understand problems, collaborate with others, and take on responsibility. The most exciting challenges of our time usually lie where the disciplines overlap.“
