Sensing Life's Interactions: From Single Cells to Single Molecules. University-Wide Inaugural Lecture starring Prof. Ulrich Rant

Sensing Life's Interactions: Prof. Ulrich Rant is doing research on the visibility of punctual interactions between molecules
How can the brief encounters of molecules be made visible and what insights can be gained for the development of new medication? This question is the focus of Prof. Dr. Ulrich Rant, who has held the Chair of Physical Chemistry / Measurement and Sensor Technology since 2024. He will provide insights into his research into the dynamics of molecular interactions at his University-Wide Inaugural Lecture on May 15, 2025 from 4:40 pm in Fritz-Foerster-building 244 at TU Dresden, Mommsenstraße 6.
The University-Wide Inaugural Lecture "Sensing Life’s Interactions: From Single Cells to Single Molecules" by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Rant will take place on:
May 15, 2025
4:40 pm – 6:10 pm (6th double period)
FOE/244, Fritz-Foerster Building, Mommsenstrasse 6, 01069 Dresden
The lecture and subsequent discussion will be held in English.
Afterwards, there will be time for an informal get-together.
The technology he has developed makes it possible to observe and measure the brief encounter of molecules and their exchange of information in real time. In his efforts to improve human living conditions through his research, Prof. Rant combines biophysics, molecular biology and engineering.
Since 2024, Prof. Ulrich Rant has also been Director of the Kurt Schwabe Institute for Sensor Technology and Chief Scientific Officer at Bruker Biosensors. Prior to this, he headed Dynamic Biosensors GmbH, a company he founded over ten years ago, which develops specialized devices for drug research. Rant was head of a nanotechnology research group at the Walter Schottky Institute of the Technical University of Munich and Junior Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Study. Prof. Rant studied physics at Graz University of Technology and received his doctorate in biophysics from Munich University of Technology in 2005.
