Professional Expertise Brings People Together; Human Relationships Make the Difference
The Alumna of the Month for October 2026 is a physicist.
Dr. Julia Lyubina, who holds a Ph.D. in physics and is our Alumna of the Month for October, bridges the worlds of business and research. At Evonik, a leading specialty chemicals company, she serves as Head of Academic Partnerships, overseeing collaborations between industry and academia. At the same time, as a visiting professor at TU Darmstadt, she is advancing a new field of research . There, in the “Sustainable Energy Storage and Conversion” department , she is investigating magnetic electrocatalysts for hydrogen production .
Communication and teamwork skills, the ability to quickly familiarize herself with new topics, and, above all, critical thinking have been crucial to her professional journey. TU Dresden proved to be the ideal place to develop and hone these skills. She found the academic freedom in the interdisciplinary environment particularly inspiring. The interplay of theory and practice, as well as collaboration across disciplinary boundaries—from physics and chemistry to engineering—had a lasting impact on her.
She advises students to consider the variety of possible career paths, even beyond an academic career.
