An unconventional presentation of research results: Prof. Simon Meier-Vieracker speaks at the Science Pub Festival
Relax and hear the latest in research from Dresden over a drink? This is what visitors can expect at the third edition of the “Beerology” Science Pub Festival. From October 22 to November 12, 2025, the Live Science association is hosting a series of short science talks in the Mondpalast hostel bar in Dresden's Neustadt district.
Researchers from the Center for Systems Biology Dresden (CSBD), the Barkhausen Institute, TU Dresden (TUD), the University of Leipzig, Lipotype, the Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital, the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG), and the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (MPI-PKS) will provide insights into their research during the festival and will be available for questions afterwards. The presentations will be held in either German or English.
On October 29, 2025, Simon Meier-Vieracker, Chair of Applied Linguistics at TU Dresden, will present his research findings. His lecture is titled "Ne, nu, nh? In his presentation entitled “Sprachcrash zwischen Elbe und Insta” (Language clash between Elbe and Insta), Meier-Vieracker will explain how Gen Z is sparking generational conflicts with a tiny nh and what lies behind this young writing phenomenon.
Professor Meier-Vieracker has already proven his ability to communicate science in a clear and engaging way on numerous occasions. In 2025, he was awarded TUD's main prize for excellent science communication. This award recognized his innovative communication of linguistic findings on his TikTok channel @fussballinguist.
Science Communication at TUD
Science communication plays a key role at TU Dresden. Research topics are prepared for a wide range of target groups and will be presented in various formats such as videos, social media, podcasts, exhibitions, and traditional media work. TUD also supports researchers in communicating their scientific discoveries to the general public.
