Forest Park Tharandt reopens after winter break
Just in time for Easter, TU Dresden's Forest Park Tharandt will open its doors to the public on March 29, 2024. Visitors have the opportunity to discover over 3,200 different species of trees and shrubs from all over the world and enjoy the tranquility of nature just a stone's throw away from Dresden. The 34 hectare park is also home to a variety of protected animal and plant species. The park will be open daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission is free and guided tours can be booked for groups. For more information, please visit www.forstpark.de.
If you would like to find out more about the future of our forests beyond the visit to our park, you can find out what endangers the forest and how, for example, large forest fires can be prevented through better international cooperation in an episode of the TUD YouTube series " Gute Frage” (Good Question).
History of Forest Park Tharandt
Forest Park Tharandt was founded in 1811 and is one of the oldest scientific collections of trees and shrubs in the world. It currently has around 3,200 different tree and shrub species, making it also one of the largest collections of hardy woody plants in Europe. By concentrating on natural biological diversity and the cultivation of documented natural habitats, it offers excellent conditions for research projects in various botanical-ecological disciplines. Today, Forest Park Tharandt is the Central Service Unit of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at TU Dresden, but also provides services for research projects at other TUD Institutes. In cooperation with other national and international Botanical Gardens, it contributes to the preservation of biological diversity.
