Reduce costs, ensure quality - AI for production technology
A baker's AI against burnt bread rolls, a medical assistance system for cancer diagnosis or machines that detect tool wear - artificial intelligence has a lot of potential for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to improve quality assurance, increase efficiency and reduce costs. However, it is used relatively little. To promote the use of AI, there is ProKI Dresden: the TU Dresden's AI demonstration and transfer center for artificial intelligence in production technology supports SMEs in using artificial intelligence in production. With information events and workshops, the team brings multidisciplinary research results on AI from science into practice. Highlights include demonstrators that show examples of applications.
The new ProKI demonstrator LOTTA can be experienced on October 16 and 17, 2024 at the 11th Ostsächsische Maschinenbautage at the Technologie- und Gründerzentrum Bautzen (TGZ). It was developed for the training and further education of companies and for university teaching. Thanks to the mobility of the LOTTA demonstrator, companies can also experience the advantages and potential of AI in production technology on site in their companies through tailored advice and practical support.
LOTTA replicates a simplified, intelligent drilling machine and makes it easier to get started with the use of AI in production technology. The installed components - guides, controls, drive elements and sensors - correspond to the industry standard and can be easily individualized for the company's use case.
The AI system in LOTTA collects data via sensors and reads it out via interfaces. With the help of AI, LOTTA detects fault conditions in the drilling process and in the machine. The machine reacts independently if something is wrong - for example, if components are wearing out or the wrong drill bit is being used. In addition to LOTTA, there are other demonstrators in the TU Dresden research halls that evaluate sensor data with the help of AI. Applications include condition monitoring and fault detection as well as predictive maintenance and quality prediction.
Background Pro KI:
Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the ProKI network is dedicated to the development of artificial intelligence in production applications with eight locations across Germany. The Dresden center focuses on forming technology. For companies, this means: support in finding ideas, implementation and realization in everyday work. All services are free of charge and individually customizable. ProKI can respond flexibly to the needs of individual companies.
