New target agreements signed: Focus on transfer and innovation
On December 11, 2024, the Rectors of the Saxon universities and the Deans of the Faculties of Medicine in Dresden and Leipzig signed new target agreements with the Free State of Saxony for the years 2025 to 2028. The conclusion of the target agreements provides TU Dresden (TUD) – as well as all other Saxon universities – with planning security in terms of content and funding for the coming years. One focus of the new target agreement is on social and economic transfer.
“We are very pleased that the target agreements signed today with the Free State will focus on the areas of transfer and innovation, as well as impact on society,” says TUD Rector Prof. Ursula Staudinger. TUD makes a significant contribution to the prosperity of the Free State in both areas: “As the German university with the highest number of patents, with the Excellence Center for Innovation, Transfer and Entrepreneurship (TUD|excite), we make significant contributions to the transfer of knowledge and technology as well as to the innovative strength of Saxony,” the Rector added.
It is particularly encouraging that the dialogue with society is also seen as an important task of the university. TUD is already very active in this area and sees itself as having a special role and responsibility – not least through the establishment of its own Vice-Rectorate for University Culture, which is currently unique in Germany. Numerous TUD dialog events are developed and bundled under its umbrella, including various events as part of TUD in Dialog, in order to increase the impact and visibility of research achievements in society, as well as the annual human chain in Dresden. “An important achievement in this context is that, following the inclusion of this topic in the target agreements last time, it is now also backed up by specific figures, as we suggested,” said Ursula Staudinger.
Excellence in transfer for the region: Research contributions to the development of Lusatia and in the field of microelectronics
Another focus of the transfer-related objectives involves the activities of TU Dresden in Lusatia. In projects such as “CircEcon-Green Circular Economy“, the “Smart Mobility Lab (SML)“, the “Construction Future Lab (CFLab) gGmbH“, and the “5G Lab Germany – Forschungsfeld Lausitz,“ TUD is actively shaping structural changes in Lusatia. In collaboration with partners, the university is realizing pioneering research infrastructure projects that are making a decisive contribution to the attractiveness of the Lusatia region.
In addition, TUD is also involved in the development of skilled workers, particularly with regard to the microelectronics sector, and is pooling these efforts across Saxony. In this way, teaching content is to be adapted to current industry needs. This is done in close cooperation with the Saxon universities and regional and international partners from industry.
Background information: Target agreements
Every four years, the state government of Saxony concludes individual target agreements with each of the 14 state universities – including TU Dresden. The target agreements incorporate goals from the entire range of services provided by the university – from research, teaching and transfer to equality, internationalization and digitalization. The universities will receive a target agreement budget to implement these goals.
