New Joint Project on Success Factors of Local E-Participation at the Chair of Political Systems and Comparative Politics
Local spaces are particularly relevant in strengthening democracy, not least because municipalities are the crystallization points of transformation processes that mostly need to be implemented and negotiated locally (e.g., migration and integration, combating climate change and decarbonization, energy transition). Supported by the Stiftung Mercator, a complete mapping of all local digital participation tools in Germany will be undertaken. This will be the first time such a database has been assembled. It will then enable the identification of factors that lead to higher quality, acceptance, and legitimacy of decisions, as well as strengthen trust and democratic attitudes, promoting societal cohesion. The interdisciplinary joint project is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Marianne Kneuer's Chair of Political Systems and Comparative Politics. Additional cooperation partners include the Düsseldorf Institute for Internet and Democracy (DIID), University of Düsseldorf, the Center for Digital Participation, University of Leipzig, and the E-Government Research Group, University of Koblenz.
