Saxony in Motion – What does the future hold? Panel discussion with Ursula Staudinger, Carsten Schneider, Andreas Otto and Kirstin Zinke
Structural change, and the associated extensive transformation processes, present the state of Saxony and Lusatia in particular with unprecedented challenges. TUD Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden) will now delve deep into the future of Saxony and its diverse perspectives, but will also take a closer look at the historical characteristics of the region and its formative role in the further development of the state.
The panel discussion "Saxony in Motion - What does the future hold?" will take place on November 15, 2024, at TU Dresden. The event promises exciting insights into the role of science in Saxony's political discourse and economic development, and much more!
The Rector of TUD, Prof. Ursula Staudinger, will deliberate with the Minister of State and Federal Government Commissioner for Eastern Germany, Carsten Schneider, the Head of Regional Transformation at the German Center for Astrophysics, Dr. Andreas Otto, and the Managing Director of the Landesverband Soziokultur Sachsen, Kirstin Zinke.
The discussion will explore key topics such as structural change and innovation against the backdrop of industry in Saxony, the "coal billions," innovative projects, as well as demographic change, which poses major challenges, especially for Saxony's rural regions. Another focus will be the role of science as a companion of — but also as a possible catalyst for — change. In addition, the specific challenges of region and culture in the new federal states, as well as the fluctuation of transformations between stagnation and avant-garde, which still characterize the tensions between East and West today, will be addressed.
This event is part of the series "Transformation East," which aims to network academic research on the post-socialist transformation at TU Dresden and to make a public contribution to the broad debate regarding the position of East Germany.
The panel discussion will take place at 6:30 pm in the Fritz Foerster Building,
Mommsenstraße 6, Room FOE/244/H of TU Dresden.
