TU Dresden launches psycho-social counselling hotline for its members of staff to deal with issues arising from the corona pandemic
For many people, including members of staff and students of TU Dresden, the coronavirus has led to dramatic changes. Measures to contain the spread of the virus now dictate our daily lives. This begins with the avoidance of physical contact with other people and results in completely new forms of cooperation. All areas of life are affected. Dr Astrid Friedmann-Ketzmerick, Head of TU Dresden’s Health Service points out: “We are increasingly aware that this unprecedented situation is perceived by some to be highly stressful and strenuous”, and that this was the motivation for setting up this hotline. In order to offer staff and students advice, TU Dresden will launch the psycho-social counselling hotline at 9:00 am on Monday, 30th March 2020. “The coronavirus not only affects those who contracted the disease, but it affects all of us. We are aware that the current situation can cause helplessness, insecurity and anxiety - we do not want to leave our colleagues and students alone with this burden, therefore we would like to support and advise them by being available for them on our hotline.”
From 9:00 am on Monday, a team of psychologically trained personnel can be contacted via a telephone number that has specifically set up for members of TU Dresden. The hotline is initiated and supported by members of staff of the TU Dresden’s Health Service, the Directorate Student Affairs and Continuing Education, the Institute for Clinical Psychology as well as the Staff Unit Internationalisation. The hotline can be contacted from 9:00 am - 12: 00 pm and 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm on Monday - Thursday, as well as from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm on Fridays.
The organisers are well prepared for questions about the virus, especially concerning fears, depression, changed consumer behaviour and rising aggressiveness.
