TUD Campus Development: "Project House Future" competition was a big hit with the public!
On Monday, July 15, 2024, TUD Dresden University of Technology and the Sächsisches Immobilien- und Baumanagement (SIB) invited the citizens of Dresden to participate in and learn more about the Project House Future Project. This is an important, participatory step towards the establishment of the Project House.
After TUD Rector Prof. Ursula Staudinger gave the welcoming address and outlined the building's concept, SIB Branch Manager Christine Behrens, SIB Head of Department Carola Klotz and Prof. Dorothea Becker from the architectural office "h.e.i.z.Haus Architektur.Stadtplanung" spoke about its structural realization. They explained where the building will be erected and updated everyone on the current status of the project. They also delved into the how and why of the competition, the significance of the planned certification standard "Silver" according to the "Assessment System for Sustainable Building" (BNB) and what else is in store for us as part of the competition beyond the discussion about the location. Dr. Marcus van Reimersdahl, Deputy Head of University Construction at the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism, emphasized the special nature of the building's development as part of the New European Bauhaus Initiative and the vanguard status that the project house thus affords Germany. Up until now, this initiative has only been applied to the renovation of existing buildings, but not to the construction of new buildings.
In the subsequent Q&A session, the audience was able to propose their suggestions and submit their queries directly to the experts. Representatives of TUD’s Student Council in particular took the opportunity to raise their issues relating to accessibility, inclusion, sustainability of construction methods and the attractiveness of the campus as a place to spend time.
The competition jury will meet for the first time in a few days to discuss the next steps of the competition procedure planned for September. The suggestions and comments from the public will also to be incorporated at this time.
Background: "Project House Future"
Project House Future is part of the Excellence Concept TUD 2028 – Synergy and Beyond. Located at the heart of the TUD campus, the building will provide students and researchers alike with a place where they can meet across disciplines, collaborate on scientific projects, and present their research. In addition, new initiatives and project ideas are to be developed here and put into practice until they are ready for application. In this way, the building will reflect the innovative strength and research drive of TU Dresden's researchers, their capabilities and their intrinsic motivation to work together across disciplines, creating synergies and innovations.
